Chiropractic & Back Pain

Low back pain is a pervasive medical, social and economic problem afflicting about eight out of ten people at some time in their lives. Back pain occurs in most adults at some point in their lives and is one of the leading causes of disability in North America.

At any given time, between 5% to 30% of the population suffers from low back pain. Low back pain has a tremendous impact on Americans and is a major socio-economic burden. It is one of the leading causes of visits made to health care providers and of time lost from the workplace.

Nearly every scientific study on any aspect of low back pain refers to it as being the single greatest area of social and economic loss. Musculoskeletal conditions were found to account for over 35% of indirect costs (over 15 billion dollars) of long-term disability, by far the highest of all conditions. Morbidity costs due to back and spine long-term disability were estimated at over 4 billion dollars in 1993.

Traditional medical management of back pain has been costly and ineffective. The need to shift to chiropractic care for low back pain management becomes even more apparent from a health policy perspective in light of the high costs, failure of many medical interventions, concerns about inappropriate surgery, hospitalization and prescription of drugs, and growing recognition and evidence of the efficacy of spinal manipulation.

Patients experience long-lasting relief by addressing the cause of their symptoms.
Dear Pain Sufferer:
Hi. It is difficult to find good care in today's healthcare maze. Doctors bumped me from office to office, specialist to specialist, and prescribed one pill after another to disguise my pain.
My name is Lawrence Hittle. I am 54, live in Jamestown, Colorado, and until this accident occurred, was gainfully employed as a construction supervisor who happily built nice homes. I was injured on the job more than four years ago and have had two serious abdominal surgeries to correct my problem. Extensive bed rest was required while these surgeries healed. I lived on my back for two years and as a result of this motionless requirement, I developed severe muscular and spinal pain from neck to tailbone. Work comp doctors gave me numerous pills to kill the pain. The pills worked at first but became ineffective with time. The long term use of these pills caused liver damage. Other pills, while effective for the pain, caused severe mental impairment. I was determined I was not going to live like that. There had to be another solution.
That's when I got in touch with Dr. Ray and accepted his recommendation for short-term comprehensive care to relieve the 24/7 pain in my back, the stabbing pains that circled my ribs, and the inability to stand or lie down without back pain. We initially met twice a week, then once a week. Progress was made quickly, starting at the top and working down. Today, my upper back is remarkably well and remains so after treatment. The stabbing pains that circled my ribs have vanished. These were debilitating pains. It felt like a screwdriver was being shoved between my lower ribs and twisted. Pills had no effect. Dr. Ray's hands did. We followed that with a few weeks of mid back manipulation. My mid back has loosened considerably as I write and we are starting work on my lower back. Sessions are now required only twice per month. I am able to sleep again without the aid of a sleeping pill. Mobility has vastly improved, and while I still take meds for the abdominal wound, I no longer have to take  anything for my back pain. My liver likes that alot. So does my brain. I am very happy with the results we have seen in the last three months. It is so nice to know that I can get relief with Dr. Ray instead of more frustration with other healthcare professionals who neither seem to care or are too busy to listen. I think most of my pain will be gone in a few more sessions, then we will cut back to just enough visits for good maintenance. 12 weeks with Dr. Ray has given me more genuine relief than two and a half years of work comp doctors and their pills. He treats the cause of the problem instead of prescribing something to disguise the pain.
If you are tired of being kicked from office to office and spending your hard-earned money on "professionals" who don't care and don't get results, please consider seeing Dr. Ray for help with your pain. I'm glad I did. He's  very good at what he does. Take a chance on something better. Get your life back. You might be pleasantly surprised.

    With warm regards,
    Lawrence Hittle
