Acupuncture: Origin and Philosophy

Acupuncture is a therapy developed more than 2000 years ago in Asia that consists of stimulating designated points on the skin by the insertion of needles in order to restore and balance the body's energy or "Qi" (pronounced "chee"). It is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which also includes the application of heat (moxibustion), massage (finger pressure, as in shiatsu massage), dietary and exercise prescriptions (tai chi and qi gong), and herbal medicine.

In the past 40 years acupuncture has become a well-known and reasonably available treatment in both developed and developing countries. Schools and training programs of acupuncture now exist in the United States that incorporate varying aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Dr. Peter Ray was a referred to me by another Medical Clinic. I had neck injections and other therapies which did not help much. I felt like my doctors had given up on me as a patient. It turns out Dr. Ray is the best doctor I could ever ask for. I was in a car accident in May of 2001 with numerous injuries. The headaches were between 8 and 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. My balance was a joke; I couldn't even look up because I'd get dizzy. I couldn't bend over because of my dizziness and I fell down all the time. My back and shoulders, my jaw and ear area were so painful, my face felt like little razors when I'd touch it.

My treatments in Dr. Ray's office mainly consisted of acupuncture (intramuscular stimulation), spinal manipulation and physical therapy. I began to feel a difference almost immediately. Even though I still suffer from injuries related to my car accident, I have greatly improved.

Dr. Peter Ray has changed my life, I move more freely with much less pain. The headaches are mild: 3 out of 10 (very bad days a 4/10). But this is so much better! I can look up, I can bend over, and I don't fall down! I can wear makeup again.

Dr. Ray really listens; he gets to know his patients' needs. Dr. Ray has gone out of his way to make sure I improved. I'm not alone; he treats all his patients this way. I do recommend Dr. Ray of Partners in Health to everyone; the staff is very caring and most of all very patient.
